DEBBIE TRIES TO COVER HER TRACKS As Debbie swears blind that she didn’t know anything about the bribery or the assault on Faye, Roy reveals that the Chairperson has been arrested on suspicion of bribery, an emergency meeting of the planning committee has been called and Ray’s done a disappearing act. As the details of Abi’s ordeal with Ray come to light, Debbie does her best to distance herself, claiming she had no idea what she was dealing with and did what she had to in order to stop Ray. Has Debbie murdered Ray? And has Abi survived?

MICHAEL IS STOPPED IN HIS TRACKS Aggie confides in Ed that she’s worried Michael is going to propose to Grace again. With Michael late for lunch, Aggie seizes the opportunity and gives Grace both barrels, telling her Michael’s better off without her. As Grace hurries out, Michael arrives home and is devastated to discover that Aggie gave Grace her marching orders. Michael races after Grace but when a police officer stops him to question him about a robbery, Grace disappears towards the tram station.

KEN FIGHTS A LOSING BATTLE WITH THE BOTTLE Ken sets about circulating a photo of Peter to all local pubs and shops explaining that he’s ill and requesting they don’t serve him. However when Peter arrives home, clearly drunk, Ken despairs.

ELSEWHERE Gail retrieves a box of family photos from the factory. A loose photo flutters to the floor. Gail picks it up and is bemused to see a picture of a lady called Fanny.

THE RESIDENTS GET THE NEWS THEY’VE BEEN WAITING FOR Sally reveals the planning committee have revoked Ray’s application and all their houses are safe.

THE BARLOWS UNITE TO TRY AND HELP PETER Concerned to see Ken so low, Adam suggests to Ken and Tracy that they each take turns to keep an eye on Peter and if he goes out, they go with him. As Peter heads out, he’s annoyed to realise Adam is following him. Peter arrives home blind drunk as Adam looks on in despair.

AGGIE IS GRANTED A GRACE PERIOD A furious Grace approaches and accuses the police officer of racism. The officer lets Michael go. Pleading with Grace to hear him out, Michael returns to No.3 and tells Aggie that Grace is moving in whether she likes it or not. Aggie reluctantly backs down.

ELSEWHERE Gail searches a genealogy website, determined to find out who Fanny was.

CARLA FORCES PETER TO CONFRONT HIS DEMONS Sweating and shaking, Peter sits down and pens a letter to Simon. He then tells Carla he’d like to draw a line under their feud and he forgives her for sleeping with Adam. Carla’s relieved but when she sees Peter’s notebook, she’s horrified to realise it’s a suicide letter to Simon. Peter insists it’s not a suicide note, but a farewell letter as he’s come to accept that he’s dying. On a mission, Carla drags Simon round to No.1 where to Peter’s horror she reads out the letter. As a shaken Simon heads out, Carla begs Peter to save himself before it’s too late.

GAIL’S PUTTING ON HER TOP HAT Gail confides in Nick that she’s traced Fanny from the photo who it turns out is her great great grandmother and she’s arranged to meet up with someone called Top Hat who claims Fanny is their great great grandmother too. Gail joins Audrey in the Rovers, who’s delighted to be having a drink with Archie’s son George, but she’s stunned to discover that Top Hat is none other than George himself.

DEBBIE GETS AN UNWELCOME VISIT Debbie tells Sally and David the development is cancelled, their houses are safe and in David’s case, she’ll sell No.8 back to him at the original price. But where is Ray? Meanwhile having traced the emergency call about Abi to Debbie’s phone, the police demand some answers.

ELSEWHERE When Paul reveals that he’s looking forward to an evening at Speed Daal with Billy, Todd forms a plan. As Billy and Paul sit down to dinner, Ajay arrives and thanks them for inviting him and Todd along. Billy’s quietly furious. Grace moves into No.3. Aggie and Grace snipe at each other until Michael steps in orders them to make an effort.

KEN GETS THROUGH TO PETER Carla implores Peter to stop drinking and prove to Simon how much he loves him but Peter storms out. As a broken Simon washes his hands of Peter, Ken’s horrified to hear what’s happened. He finds Peter drunk in a hotel bar but when Ken tries to take his drink off him, Peter lashes out. Ashamed of his actions, Peter breaks down and admits he wants to give up the booze but doesn’t know how.

DEBBIE’S PLOT THICKENS Debbie tells the officer that she found Abi unconscious on the bistro floor, thought she’d overdosed, so called an ambulance. Debbie persuades Kevin to let her sign the garages back to him, telling him he can also keep the £90k that he was paid.

EILEEN AND GAIL REVIVE AN OLD FEUD Gail and George are thrilled to realise they share a set of great great grandparents, Fanny and Augustus Page. Mary and Eileen call at the pub and are unimpressed to see George fawning over Gail. As Eileen and Gail embark on a slanging match, George wonders what he’s got himself into.

ELSEWHERE Over dinner, Aggie and Grace paint on smiles for Michael’s sake, but secretly wonder how on earth they’re going to keep up the facade.

Friday January 29th 2021

PETER WANTS A SECOND CHANCE Ken’s horrified to discover Peter suffering a seizure and calls an ambulance. In the hospital the Barlows discuss the doctor’s advice to reduce Peter’s alcohol intake gradually to avoid sudden death. Carla attends a meeting with a new client, only to discover it’s Lucas, a blast from the past she met when living in Devon. Carla calls at No.1 to offer Peter her support but when he makes it clear he doesn’t want her anywhere near she heads to lunch with Lucas who reveals he’s booked a hotel for the weekend and he’d like her to join him. Roy urges Peter to make things up with Carla as it’s clear they still love each other but if he doesn’t act now, it could be too late. As Ken administers Peter’s whisky and Carla readies to leave for the weekend, Peter asks her not to go. Will Carla agree?

TRACY TRIES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE David admits to Shona that buying the house back isn’t as easy as it sounds as he spent the money paying off the mortgage and now they’ll need another one. When Tracy overhears this her ears prick up. Cornering Debbie she reveals that David can’t afford to buy back No.8 so she’d like it instead. Debbie assures David he gets first refusal but she wants a quick sale. David masks his panic.

PAUL FINDS THE WILL TO WALK AWAY Despite his efforts, Todd fumes to see Billy and Paul so happy together. On Todd’s instructions, Will calls Paul and begs for help. Paul refuses to be drawn in and kills the call. Billy’s proud of him as Todd broods.

ELSEWHERE Dev confides in Nina that Asha’s still brooding over Corey and her school work is suffering because of it. Nina suggests that she might find it easier to study in the cafe. But as Asha helps Nina out in the cafe the spark between them is evident.
