Thursday 15 July – Episode One

Liam asks Jacob to help with Leanna’s things to try and make amends but Liam becomes distressed when Jacob starts asking after the ring he gave Leanna. Jacob’s distraught at the loss of the ring and David’s gutted for him, whereas Meena desperately tries to keep a poker face.

Meena’s thrilled when he finally asks her to move in with him.

Will Jimmy be found guilty?

How is Jimmy feeling as his trial arrives?

Well, he’s wearing the suit he last wore at Edna’s funeral, so that’s a good indication of his mood I would say!

What does he think his chances are?

He believes he has slim to no chance. The first day in court goes badly for Jimmy. He’s basically terrified and he freezes and he thinks the jury hates him.

Nicola worries that Jimmy has given up – is that the case?

I think he more or less has! Nicola knows him more than anyone and I think she’s just about right. He can’t see a way forward from this.

Can you tell us about the speech that Mandy has prepared?

Yes! It’s incredibly positive and not the kind of things Nicola would ever say to him. And it also takes in her attitude to Paul, but it’s relentlessly positive about Jimmy and what a great family man he is.

How does the kiss happen?

It’s a direct reaction to the speech. He’s completely bowled over by it.

How does Jimmy feel afterwards and do you think Jimmy has real feeling for Mandy?

He feels completely guilty afterwards. He might have feelings for Mandy but I think we would have feelings at this point to an ice-cream seller who gave him extra sprinkles! He’s bowled over by anyone who shows him any act of kindness.

Nicola later gives Jimmy a pep talk – does it have any effect at all?

It makes him angry. It pricks his guilt and sends him into a bit of a fury. it’s the last thing he needs at the moment to be told what to do. He needs support not direction.

Why is he so convinced that he’s going to prison?

He feels terribly guilty about what happened and he believes he is guilty. It’s brought up guilt about death that he thinks he’s caused in the past.

How do you think he would cope behind bars?

I don’t know how anyone copes behind bars. But Jimmy is a survivor so I guess he’d bounce back. He’s been shot, stabbed and he’s survived.

Do you think he and Nicola still have a future together?

I don’t know. How often can she take him back? This needs to be a question for Nicola. Will she still want him after everything?

How would you personally feel if they split up?

I’d be bereft without a doubt. I love working with Nicola. It’s been great fun working with Lisa Riley as well but Jimmy and Nicola have had such a long partnership. I’d definitely miss it.

Do you think Jimmy and Mandy could potentially make a good match?

Jimmy needs a woman with a lot of drive and Mandy certainly has that, so I guess it could happen.

What’s been the viewer reaction to Jimmy’s recent troubles?

The “if you split Nicola and Jimmy up I’ll stop watching” bomb has been thrown a few times. We’ll just have to wait and see!
