Melanie upbraids Nell after learning she asked Toadie for a reference against her wishes. Toadie, already regretting the harsh reference he sent through to Melanie’s lawyer the previous night, is doubly ashamed when he learns it was Nell who instigated the request. Fraught and regretful, Toadie makes quick work of writing an updated letter, while Terese takes Nell and Hugo out to give him space. Bonding over cake, Terese cautions Nell against taking on the adult role in her relationship with her former stepmother; Melanie needs to find happiness on her own terms.
Before her hearing, Melanie is gutted to read Toadie’s scathing assessment; she fires her lawyer, set on facing punishment. When Toadie arrives mid-interview with his new reference, he explains his incorrect assumptions and encourages Melanie not to give up. Moved by Toadie’s words, Melanie rehires her lawyer and renews her fight. A remorseful Krista, meanwhile, owns her past and confesses the truth about how Melanie came to be in possession of her drugs. Post-interview, a proud David re-emphasises that he is there for Krista any time; she doesn’t need to turn to his brother. When Krista admits that she clicks with Leo, David broaches that he’s noticed their mutual affinity and warns against anything more than friendship during her recovery. Although Krista reassures David that he has nothing to worry about, she’s unsettled by his insight.
Nicolette puzzles over the key that turned up in Jane’s garden clogs and attempts to find the owner. However, when her investigation with the neighbours proves fruitless, her private concern grows. Later, Nicolette’s subconscious is triggered by a photo of her ex-girlfriend Kiri, and she searches up the name “Sasha McLain” …
Post-character reference debacle, Terese comes across Toadie’s laptop, still open. After a hesitation, she wakes up the screen and reads the revised character reference – describing Melanie as a trusted employee, a wonderful partner and an exceptional stepmother, someone with integrity and unmatched selflessness. Terese reels from the evidence of their bond.

Terese is nursing her quiet discomfort over Toadie’s reference letter for Melanie, but he doesn’t pick up on it. Terese is uncomfortable again when Toadie tells her Melanie has discovered she’s not being extradited. Toadie expresses wanting Melanie to have something to focus on, and Terese finally confronts him about being too involved with his ex…
Karl is concerned when he learns that Haz asked Holly for a break. Wanting to get to know Haz better, and feeling over-protective of his daughter, Karl invites Haz to have dinner with them. During the dinner, it’s clear Karl has some concerns about Haz, and Holly is mortified, wishing her dad would stay out of it.
Aaron and Cara are enjoying working together, but are frustrated that their partners don’t get along. They decide to host a dinner party between the two couples, tricking David and Remi into attending. It seems there is more than one awkward dinner on the street tonight…

Realising that Holly is still upset with the way he questioned Haz at dinner, Karl offers to apologise. But his fears are only further amplified when he notices Haz has some of Mackenzie’s modelling photos sitting on the desk. Feeling caught out, Haz hides the photos, explaining how they fell out of the book Byron is reading. However, Karl returns home suspicious and after a conversation with Terese, decides to warn Holly her relationship seems very one sided. Unfortunately for Karl, his caring Dad act backfires when Holly explodes at him, questioning if she would even exist if not for his mistakes.
Melanie is ecstatic having the Drinks Divas van back in her life, but there’s still no clue who bought it for her. Although she’s pretty convinced she knows who it is – Toadie. Terese has jumped to the same conclusion and confronts Toadie about it. But his insistence it wasn’t him calms her down.
Meanwhile, Paul is determined to make life difficult for Krista. Leo’s fed up with it and tries to encourage his Dad to be more lenient on her, but this only serves to annoy Paul when Krista points out that he’s the one who covered up what he thought was her murder. Much to Paul’s annoyance, Krista manages to run the Lassiters Summer Nights Party with very little difficulty. But when he approaches her to point out there are underage kids around, Krista struggles to respond, grabbing onto Leo for support. It seems like she’s been drugged.
Thursday, January 4th, 2023 on Amazon Freevee at 7:00am
David and Leo are at Krista’s side after she spins out at the New Year’s Eve party, claiming someone spiked her drink. At the hospital, Remi checks Krista and shares David’s suspicion that she’s taken some sort of opioid. Krista keeps denying that she didn’t take anything, but will anyone believe her?
Sadie has been offered a place in a childcare degree. She builds up the courage to admit to Wendy that she doesn’t want to study a three-year course and spend thousands of dollars. She wants to be a makeup artist. But Wendy, who only wants the best for her daughter, does not take this news well…
Byron hands over a key he discovers under Nicolette’s front door step, listing an address for an apartment in the Docklands. Nicolette goes there and discovers a deserted apartment with a bag from a lingerie company in the middle of the room. Who’s trying to provoke Nicolette?
