Seeing tensions rise between JJ and Dex, Cara suggests a spontaneous camping trip to get the family back on the same page. Dex resists as it means giving up gaming time with his friends, but when Remi reminds him that they’re the only ones who can help JJ get back on track he comes reluctantly on board. But his enthusiasm wanes as Remi and Cara spend the entire trip humouring JJ, even as JJ continues to take their support for granted. When Dex accidentally ruins lunch, he cracks it, feeling like he’s copping more judgement from his mums than JJ. Fed up, Dex secludes himself in his tent. Later, when they go to check on him, they discover Dex is gone. And there’s nothing but bush surrounding them.
Krista and Aaron have been on a bender together, but they’re all shame and regret in the cold light of morning. Krista apologises to Aaron for dragging him into her spiral, and Aaron apologises for enabling her relapse. He’s all too aware what David would think of him right now. Their guilt is compounded as they’re forced to lie to their friends and loved ones to keep the secret. After a make-up lunch date with Leo, after bailing on him the previous night, Krista swears to Aaron that their bender was a once off. Aaron agrees, but Chelsea, orchestrating Krista’s backslide from the sidelines, knows exactly what path these two are on. Karl rallies a small group to come cycling with him on a new route… one that just happens to go past his newest billboard. But the viewing goes awry when they find that the billboard has been vandalized – by someone naming Karl as the Erinsborough pooper. Karl is humiliated, demanding Terese have the offending paint cleaned before too many more people can see it. Wendy and Melanie privately confer, confirming that neither of them spread Melanie’s playful theory about Karl. But Melanie’s guilt gets the beeer of her and she confesses to Karl, which only makes him feel worse. Before he can spiral further, Susan arrives home early. Beside himself with relief by her surprise return, Karl realizes he can weather anything – even these unsavoury rumours – with Susan at his side.
