Corrie viewers are in for a shocking week as Liam’s struggles take a dangerous turn. Joseph spots Liam having a panic attack but Liam hides his troubles, resorting to stealing Paul’s benzodiazepines! Disaster strikes when Liam is found unconscious with the empty pill bottle beside him.
Meanwhile, Maria is left reeling after discovering Gary’s secret heart-to-heart with Sarah. Hidden cameras reveal a truth that leaves Maria fuming, dashing Gary’s hopes for a reunion. With Liam in hospital and her marriage on the rocks, Maria confides in Kirk, feeling like a failure.
“It’s definitely been a tricky time,” says Gary Windass actor Mikey North. “Gary’s juggling looking after Maria and Liam, and their different approaches to helping Liam haven’t exactly helped.”
Things came to a head when Maria accused Gary of not being a real father to Liam. “That comment really hit Gary hard,” admits North. “He sees himself as a dad to Liam, especially after everything they’ve been through.”
But Gary’s troubles don’t end there. When news breaks that Liam has overdosed, Gary is left devastated. “He feels awful,” reveals North. “He never meant to leave Liam alone, it was just bad timing.”
Of course, fans will remember Gary was with Sarah when Liam fell ill. Will he come clean to Maria? “He might try to keep it quiet,” teases North. “He doesn’t want to make things worse for Maria, but secrets always have a way of coming out in Corrie!”
