As Dawn returns to Home Farm with her poorly baby, Evan, Emmerdale fans will see her grappling with anxiety and self-doubt. Olivia Bromley, who plays Dawn, shared, “The idea of germs and infection is really scary to her. At the hospital she feels safe, but at home it’s all her and Billy’s responsibility now.”
Despite her doubts, Dawn’s strength shines through. “Dawn always falls back into self-doubt and self-punishment; she believes it’s karma because of her past. But she’s actually very strong and capable. You’ll see Dawn rise to the challenge,” Bromley said.

The strain of caring for Evan has also impacted Dawn’s marriage with Billy, with Bromley describing the acting experience with Jay Kontzle (Billy) as “intense but truthful.” She added, “This is the first time in recent episodes where you question whether they’re going to be able to hold it together.”
Adding to the drama is the arrival of Dawn’s mother, Rose, played by Christine Tremarco. Bromley expressed excitement about this new dynamic: “It’s so interesting to see this character come in and totally disrupt things when Dawn’s already dealing with so much.” However, Rose’s ulterior motives could spell trouble. “If Dawn found out, it would be blow after blow for her. She’d be completely floored and devastated.”
On working with Tremarco, Bromley enthused, “She has such an amazing energy and she’s so warm and friendly. I thought, ‘We’re going to get on really well!’ She’s been brilliant to work with.”
Reflecting on Dawn’s journey, Bromley is proud of the character’s growth. “It’s really positive to see her be such a good role model and parent for the kids. Everything that’s changed for her is quite amazing.”
As for future storylines, Bromley has her dreams: “It would be fun to see Dawn and Billy be a bit grittier, see the other side of them — their hustle. But maybe some romance too. Maybe they just come into a load of money and become incredibly glamorous. I want Dawn to have a glow-up!”
