In a turn of events in Coronation Street, Kit’s strained relationship with his mother, Bernie, takes center stage. Kit remains deeply resentful towards Bernie, feeling abandoned not once, but twice. “He’s still very angry and doesn’t want anything to do with her,” reveals Jacob Roberts. “He believes she abandoned him twice—first at birth and then again when he was 20 and she failed to show up for their meeting. He has a lot of unresolved issues.”
While Kit seems to extend an olive branch to Bernie by arranging a meeting to discuss revealing the truth to Gemma and Paul, it’s all part of a façade. “It’s all an act,” the actor explains. “He lets her think he wants to reunite the family. Although he genuinely wants a relationship with Gemma and Paul, he’s pretending to build bridges with Bernie. He leaves her waiting at the pub, showing his true intentions.”
Kit’s feelings towards his newfound siblings, Paul and Gemma, are equally complex. “He’s sad that Bernie prevented him from having a relationship with them. As an only child, he would have loved to have siblings and he resents the lost time. Paul’s illness adds urgency to his desire to connect with them.”

When Kit visits the flat, his motive is clear. “He wants to tell Gemma and Paul his version of events, emphasizing how their mum abandoned him and kept his existence a secret. He takes pleasure in doing this behind Bernie’s back, aiming to hurt her as she hurt him.”
Forgiveness seems a distant prospect for Kit. “Not for some time. He’s deriving some perverse pleasure from being around Bernie and forming a bond with his siblings. It’ll be interesting to see how long he can keep this up before realizing that forgiveness is the only way forward.”
This week also sees Kit warning Sarah about Swain’s inquiry into Nathan, hinting at his rogue cop tendencies. “He isn’t too worried,” Jacob comments. “He justifies framing Nathan, believing he was a bad person who needed to be off the streets. Kit’s complex and ambitious; he’s a lone wolf who often avoids doing things by the book.”

Joining the established family on Coronation Street has been a delight for the actor who previously starred in Hollyoaks as Damon Kinsella. “It’s fantastic. Everyone’s been so welcoming. Jane Hazelgrove and the rest of the family have been great. Plus, working with other cast members through Kit’s role as a policeman is wonderful.”
Preparation for the role has been a blend of research and personal insight. “I researched the role of a detective constable but, given Kit’s unorthodox methods, I rely heavily on the scripts. Watching police interview videos helped with scenes like the interrogation of Toyah. For the adoption aspect, my mom’s experience as an adoptee has been invaluable.”
