In upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, tensions rise as Belle King faces intense questioning from Charity, Chas, Mandy, and Lydia about her relationship with Tom. Charity pushes Belle to reveal the truth, but Belle, feeling cornered, angrily storms out. Charity finds Belle outside the Woolpack and gently tries again to get her to open up. Belle, on the verge of tears, sees Tom approaching and, in a panic, shoves Charity away and flees home.
“As me, I felt that if anyone was going to recognise those signs of abuse, it probably would be Charity, because she’s lived and breathed it in her past,” Emma Atkins shared.
In a bold move, Charity seeks help from the girls. “Nobody seems to be seeing it except Charity, so she says to the girls, ‘help me – technically, for want of a better word – kidnap Belle from the house, and pretend that we’re doing it for a girly night to cheer Lydia up.'”
Tom intervenes, telling Charity that Belle is struggling with her mental health. The other women worry that Charity has overreacted, leaving Charity frustrated and fearing she’s lost her chance to uncover the truth.
Back home, Tom’s demeanor changes. He makes a call to set up a job interview in Wales. The next day, Charity attempts to reconcile with Belle, but Belle remains unimpressed. Meanwhile, Tom participates in an online interview, discussing a job in a remote part of Wales and suggesting that Belle would love the move.
Atkins anticipates the audience’s reaction. “I think the audience will be really frustrated by that. In a good way, because it shows you just how this sort of stuff does go on every day in people’s domestic lives, they’re living that hell. It’s strong stuff, I spend a lot of my time screaming at Tom [when watching the show]. It’s difficult to watch sometimes, I must say.”
For fans eager to see Tom face consequences, Atkins hints at a satisfying turn of events. “She’s onto him, and I think that’s going to excite the audience in a way, because everybody’s saying ‘when is he going to get found out?’ So I think they’ll enjoy the fact that someone’s onto him, finally!”
Later, Tom proposes a holiday to Belle, with plans to take her to a secluded cottage. As Belle warms to the idea, Tom is secretly pleased that his plan is coming together.
