Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman was awarded Best Soap Actor at the TRIC Awards today, but she had someone else in mind for the honor.

Lipman, who plays the sharp-tongued Evelyn Plummer, graciously dedicated her win to her co-star David Nielsen. “This is not my award, this is David Nielsen’s award, you got it wrong. He is just the best person to act with,” Lipman declared, emphasizing Nielsen’s exceptional talent and their on-screen chemistry.
Reflecting on her time on the iconic soap, Lipman added, “He’s a leading actor who is a joy to be Evelyn by the side of. And no actor is bigger than The Street.” She also paid homage to her late husband, Jack Rosenthal, who penned episode 13, and marveled at the show’s longevity as they approach episode 11534.
Despite her humble remarks, Lipman expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “It’s been a long journey, and although I think you gave it to the wrong guy, I am very, very grateful. It’s a happy family, Coronation Street, and it is the best.”

Coronation Street continues Friday 28 June on ITV1
