ITV sat down with comedian Alan Carr to discuss the upcoming second series of his acclaimed sitcom, Changing Ends. Carr opened up about the pressure of following a successful first series, the emotional impact of losing co-writer Simon Carlyle, and the joy of seeing his life brought to the screen.

“I was so nervous because this is such a personal story for me on so many levels,” Carr admitted, reflecting on the audience reaction to season one. “If people had slagged off the show I would have taken it really personally.”

With the positive reception, Carr feels confident pushing boundaries in the new season, promising “added va va voom.” He also teased the introduction of his nan, played by Maggie Steed, and the challenges of working with a teenage actor to portray his younger self.

“Sometimes I feel like a caveman when I’m explaining things to him,” Carr joked about guiding Ollie Savell, who plays young Alan.

The comedian also touched on the bittersweet experience of writing the new series without Carlyle, who tragically passed away last year. Despite the challenges, Carr is proud of the result, stating, “If we’ve captured even a little squidge of that emotion then I think people are going to enjoy series two even more than the first.”

Changing Ends Series Two is avaible on ITVX.
