Coronation Street is set to air a poignant episode focusing entirely on a day in the life of Paul Foreman, who is battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The special episode, airing at 8pm on Friday, July 26th, is dedicated to the memory of Rugby League legend Rob Burrow, who passed away from MND last month.

Written by Debbie Oates, directed by Vicky Thomas, and produced by Verity MacLeod, this unique episode captures an emotional day as Billy and Paul cherish their moments together, aware of the fleeting time they have. The day is meticulously planned by Billy with the support of family and friends, following the heartbreaking news that Paul can no longer safely use the stair lift.

The episode allows viewers to experience Paul’s day through his perspective, with actor Peter Ash providing a heartfelt voice-over of Paul’s inner thoughts and emotions. From revisiting the church where they married to enjoying the familiar surroundings of the Rovers, Paul’s reflections offer a poignant insight into his life as he confronts his limited time.

Billy’s meticulously planned day starts with a sentimental visit to the church where they married, followed by a gathering at the Rovers with Paul’s friends. Paul, unable to drink due to his feeding tube, gets a special treat thanks to David’s inventive beer bubbles, allowing him to taste beer again. “The day is filled with little joys and meaningful moments,” Daniel reveals. “Billy realizes it’s the small things that matter most.”

Producer Verity MacLeod shared her thoughts on the episode: “Paul’s MND has been such an important, powerful story and this episode is one of the real pinnacle moments in Paul’s journey. Coronation Street has never done anything like this before. It is extraordinary, heartbreaking, funny, and beautiful—must-see television at its best!”

Peter Ash, who plays Paul, expressed his pride in the episode: “I feel incredibly proud to have worked on this episode. From the moment I read the script I knew it was going to be something really special. I loved being able to record Paul’s inner thoughts, showing us the mind is still 100%, even with MND.”

Daniel Brocklebank, who portrays Billy Mayhew and has a personal connection to MND, shared his emotional experience: “There were times I burst into tears on set during the filming of this episode. Seeing Pete in that condition is so emotional to play. Pete’s performance and his attention to detail have been incredible. I’m hoping that he wins all the awards; he deserves it so much.”

This special Coronation Street episode is set to be a memorable tribute, blending raw emotion with beautiful storytelling, offering a rare and intimate look into the life of someone battling MND.
