Actor Sean Wilson is making a much-anticipated return to Coronation Street as Martin Platt, six years after his last appearance. Sean begins filming today (Wednesday, July 24th) and will first appear on screen in October, tied to Helen Worth’s exit storyline.

Martin’s sudden reappearance shocks his son David, who is immediately suspicious of his father’s motives. The rest of the Platt family is left wondering why Martin has turned up out of the blue.

“It was great to be invited back to Corrie again, to contribute to Helen’s exit story,” Sean shared. “We’ll have a few months to catch up with Martin and Gail again, following the ebbs and flows of the unfolding storyline. Playing Martin has been a joy since day one and in a way, I’ll be slipping back to where I left off, which no doubt will throw a spanner into the heart of the Platt family. It’s just like slipping on an old and comfortable jumper from the back of the wardrobe …I’m looking forward to reuniting with my TV family.”

Sean played Martin for 20 years, from 1985 to 2005. His character and family emigrated to New Zealand in 2018, with Martin making a final visit to Weatherfield to reconcile with David. The reason behind Martin’s return to the UK and his role in Gail’s departure from the street remains a mystery.
