“It’s been a very traumatic time for not only Bethany but Sarah too,” reveals Tina O’Brien. “She snapped into mum mode straight away, but when she saw the severity of what happened, she was absolutely devastated.”

Next week in Coronation Street promises to be a turbulent one for Sarah Platt as she grapples with the fallout from daughter Bethany’s decision to undergo liposuction. Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah, has opened up about her character’s emotional journey.

“Sarah was completely blindsided when she found out about the surgery,” Tina explains. “Bethany never mentioned anything like this. They’re so close, so for Sarah, it came out of the blue. It’s heartbreaking.”

The shock quickly turns to worry as Sarah discovers Bethany’s insurance doesn’t cover the procedure, leaving the family facing mounting hospital bills. “She’s thinking, ‘What the hell are we going to do?’ It’s like a nightmare—every day, she sees the costs going up by thousands.” Sarah’s distress is compounded by the fear of public judgment. “She’s not ashamed of what Bethany did, but she knows people will blame them and that’s tough to face.”

The tension escalates when Sarah’s mum Gail suggests selling the house to cover the costs. “She feels a mix of emotions,” says Tina. “She’s gutted that it’s come to this but also feels relief and gratitude. Gail’s support means a lot, even though Sarah feels guilty about the whole situation.”

With everything spiralling out of control, Sarah initially lashes out at Bethany’s boyfriend Daniel. “She’s angry and confused, but deep down she knows it’s not his fault. Bethany’s an adult, and she makes her own choices.” However, Sarah’s mistrust of Daniel hasn’t faded. “She’s never been keen on them together, especially after how things ended last time. She’s always been wary of Daniel.”

And as if things couldn’t get worse, Damon is back on Sarah’s radar after leaving her a voicemail. “There’s always going to be something there with Damon,” Tina admits. “He really understood her and didn’t judge. She’ll always have a soft spot for him.”

Despite the chaos, Sarah’s finding some peace in being single. “She’s happy not dealing with any more idiots!” Tina laughs. “With everything going on, there’s no time for relationships, so she’s content focusing on her family.”

Will Sarah and her family weather this storm? Tune in next week to find out!
