Detective Kit, played by Jacob Roberts, is about to shake things up on Coronation Street as he delves into the mystery of Joel’s death. In an interview, Roberts reveals that Kit isn’t your typical cop, and viewers can expect him to cross a few lines in his hunt for the truth.

“Kit’s priority is to get down to who killed Joel. He knows someone is lying—everyone’s acting shifty on the street, and there’s a few potential culprits,” Jacob explains. “He likes to take the law into his own hands to get justice, so he’s going to do things his way. Kit justifies his bad behaviour if it gets him results.”

Kit has integrated himself into the street, but don’t mistake that for friendships. “He’s friendly, sure, but Kit doesn’t really have any friends on the street. He can have a pint with people, but there’s no real connection. The closest thing he has to a ‘friend’ is Lisa because of their work ties, but even then, they clash,” Jacob reveals.

When it comes to Joel, Kit has a deep-rooted disdain. “Kit didn’t like Joel, but he didn’t like Lauren at first either. He saw Lauren as her father’s daughter—someone involved in activism, like her dad. But when he realised Lauren was the victim, Kit was gunning for Joel. So, in a way, Kit’s glad Joel’s dead, though he’s gutted he never got to see him rot in jail.”

This complicated relationship with Joel fuels Kit’s investigation. “Kit’s all about justice, and Joel’s death is a blow for him and the whole team. Now Kit’s focused on finding who killed Joel. He’s not going to be nice about it, especially with people lying to him.”

The tension between Kit and Lisa only grows as the case progresses. “Lisa suggests Mason could be the culprit, which lights a spark in Kit. He finds Mason with a crowbar and brings him in for questioning, but it’s just the beginning.”

The power dynamic between Kit and Lisa also adds to the pressure. “Kit and Swain make a good team, but Kit can’t fully trust her. She’s by the book, and Kit… well, he’s not,” Jacob admits. “Kit’s glad to be heading up the case now that Lisa’s off, but she’s still constantly in his ear, which gets on his nerves.”

As for guilt over Lisa being removed from the case, Kit has none. “He doesn’t feel guilty. Lisa thinks she’s superior—she is, technically, but Kit believes he’s better than her. They’ve been giving each other digs for a while.”

The drama between Kit and Lisa is far from over, with Lisa’s personal connection to the case stirring up even more conflict. “Kit handles Lisa’s interference pretty well, but it’s clear she doesn’t. He hits a nerve when he tells her to focus on what her daughter’s doing.”

With Kit at the helm, expect plenty of twists as he digs into Joel’s murder. As Jacob teases, “This is just the beginning…”
