Doctors airs on BBC One at 2pm from Monday to Thursday
In a heartfelt farewell, Kia Pegg, beloved for her role as Scarlett Kiernan in Doctors, shared her favorite moments and storylines from the long-running show. In a chat, she revealed, ‘As a standalone episode, the one where Scarlett bumps into an old friend who turns out to be dying is my all-time favourite. I loved that script; I loved the guest artists, and I think that episode is probably the best work I’ve ever done.’
Kia’s time on Doctors was marked by significant storylines, with the cost of living arc standing out as a personal favorite. ‘It was such a long-running story that it gave me the opportunity to do something totally new as an actor,’ she explained. ‘Playing a character with a big secret is always fun. I also enjoyed showing a different side to Scarlett once the pressure of that time period was over for her.’

Among her many memorable experiences, Kia recalled the irony of Scarlett learning to drive, a skill she is still trying to master in real life. ‘Every day I got to go out in the car with Chris was a good one! He’s the most incredible actor and the nicest guy, so getting to work with him so much was brilliant. I learnt something every single time.’
Reflecting on her time in the show, she noted, ‘Picking a favourite memory seems almost impossible. It was quite literally the happiest time of my life so far. I never had a bad day.’ She particularly cherished filming with Ian and Adrian, sharing laughs during the Cotswolds two-parter and a hilarious follow-up episode at The Mill.
Another standout moment for Kia was when Scarlett joined the ‘dinners with distinction’ gang. ‘I felt like I’d been thrown in with the A-team and was very nervous to be in that episode, but ultimately had the most fun shooting it,’ she said, reminiscing about playing games and creating great scenes.
As the show concluded, Kia organized an awards night dubbed the ‘Didos.’ ‘It was a brilliant night, with lots of laughter. Really, it was just a table full of love,’ she recalled. ‘I felt like that cast had given me so much, lots of it without even realising, and I know Dex felt the same.’

What set Doctors apart for Kia was the unique atmosphere on set. ‘Now that it is gone, there is nowhere left quite like it. I’ve never before been in a place as hectic and yet as warm,’ she stated. ‘The magic of that place was reflected on screen, and the people that could watch it know what a loss it is.’
As for what she will miss most, Kia said it’s the ‘boring’ everyday moments that truly defined her time on set. ‘I miss things like the walk from my room up to The Mill, seeing new scripts waiting for me in my door, and chatting in Dex’s dressing room over lunch. Those ‘nothing’ bits are the ones that prove you’re really there and part of the team.’
With her final episodes approaching, Kia teased fans, saying, ‘I can say that it’s Scarlett’s birthday! There are fun little ‘Easter eggs’ for fans to watch out for, so keep your eyes peeled.’
Looking ahead, Kia is excited about her role in children’s TV. ‘It’s wildly different to playing Scarlett but lots of fun. I actually kept up presenting on the weekends while shooting Doctors, which was a bit crazy—but it’s now paying off as I get to do it a bit more full time.’
