As winter’s icy grip tightens, Emmerdale is about to deliver a chilling start to the year with a dramatic storyline that promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. A terrifying car crash and a frozen lake are at the heart of the gripping new plot, set to unfold this February.

In a haunting New Year’s flash-forward, fans saw a desperate hand emerging from the icy waters of a frozen lake, leaving viewers wondering: whose life is hanging in the balance, and will they survive? The chilling sequence, filmed during night shoots before Christmas, involved a team of specialists to create the perilous frozen lake at the village’s edge.

Although details remain under wraps, Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw teased the exciting episodes to come. She explained, “With winter nights having drawn in, our audience are enjoying cosy nights indoors whilst our fantastic team at Emmerdale have been recording gripping drama to bring to their screens. The stunning backdrop of the village, from its rugged woodland to its wilder landscapes, set the perfect stage for what’s to come. I’m thrilled for our audience to experience these episodes as they unfold, taking them on a chilling—quite literally—and perilous journey across the frozen ice.”

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 7:30pm on ITV1
