Just when Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) thought he’d finally met Mr. Right, tonight’s Coronation Street threw in a curveball as smooth-talking Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) arrived with his wife in tow.

Viewers have been watching Todd fall fast for the charming scaffolder, but things have been far from smooth sailing. Theo has been blowing hot and cold for weeks – and now we know why. Tonight’s episode saw Theo rocked up at the undertakers, not for a romantic rendezvous, but to help his wife arrange her mum’s funeral.
As Theo tried to explain the truth. He admitted he’s been married to Danielle for 19 years – but has known for most of his life that he’s gay.

As for Danielle – played by ex-Emmerdale and The Royal star Natalie Anderson – it’s clear she knows nothing about her husband’s secret. And if tonight’s first appearance is anything to go by, Danielle could prove to be a force to be reckoned with.
Speaking about joining the cobbles, Natalie admits:
“I’m delighted and honoured to be stepping on to the cobbles. Coronation Street is an institution and especially if you’re a northerner like me, it’s part of the fabric of our upbringing. I’m not going to lie, I did have a little tear when I started as I felt an immense sense of pride walking around the sets where so many incredible actors and characters have gone before. It’s also lovely to be working with ITV who I’ve spent so many years with throughout my career, it’s been wonderful to see so many familiar faces. I’m having the loveliest time!”
Talking about her character Danielle, Natalie teased that there’s more to come:
“Danielle is such a brilliant character! I’m so thrilled to be playing her. She’s a deeply layered woman and it’s been wonderful to explore some of those layers as I’ve gone on this journey with her. She’s also a bit of a shapeshifter so you never really know what you’re going to get – and I’ve absolutely loved playing that. There’s lots of surprises with her!”
Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 8pm on ITV1
