A gripping US drama series with a staggering 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating has just dropped on UK streaming service STV Player – and viewers can watch it in full without paying a penny.
Manhunt: Unabomber, a chilling eight-part series based on the real-life FBI hunt for one of the most elusive criminals in US history, is now available to stream for free across the UK.
The high-stakes psychological thriller stars Avatar’s Sam Worthington as FBI criminal profiler Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald, the maverick agent who dared to think differently in the race to catch the so-called Unabomber, a domestic terrorist responsible for three deaths and 23 injuries over two decades.
In a battle not only against a faceless killer but also his own colleagues, Fitz shakes up the system with his pioneering use of forensic linguistics, but finds himself stonewalled by the old-school bureaucracy of the FBI’s UNABOM Task Force.
“He’s a guy who’s trying to change the way things are done,” Sam has said. “But that doesn’t always sit well in a room full of people who’ve done it their way for 20 years.”
Opposite Sam is WandaVision and Marvel favorite Paul Bettany, taking a chilling turn as Ted Kaczynski, the real-life former mathematics prodigy and reclusive academic who was finally unmasked as the Unabomber in 1996.
The series has received critical acclaim across the pond, with The Hollywood Reporter describing it as “interesting in its depiction of how years of using traditional methods and failing to catch America’s most notorious serial bomber gave way to something experimental and new”. The Los Angeles Times hailed the “equal parts true-crime drama, psychological thriller” as a “win on all fronts”.
Manhunt: Unabomber is the latest binge-worthy series to join the growing list of international content available to stream for free on STV Player, which includes the Canadian legal drama Burden of Truth; the Irish police procedural Red Rock; and New Zealand’s longest-running drama, Shortland Street. The second series in the Manhunt anthology, Manhunt: Deadly Games – which follows the FBI’s hunt for the 1996 Olympic Games bomber – is also available on STV Player.
