TV favourite Joe Absolom is heading to the Dales this summer, but fans shouldn’t expect a warm welcome!
The acclaimed star of EastEnders, Doc Martin, and The Bay is joining the cast of Emmerdale in a brand new role; he’ll play Ray, a smooth-talking old contact of Mackenzie Boyd, who arrives on the farm posing as a farm machinery salesman.
But as ever in the village, not everything is as it seems…
“Charming on the surface, Ray’s real trade is in something far more sinister, drugs,” Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw reveals. “It doesn’t take long before some of our villagers find out what he’s really about.”
Ray may look calm and collected, but beneath that slick exterior lies a dark, dangerous streak, and it’s only a matter of time before his true colours are revealed.
Executive Producer Laura Shaw told us: “We are thrilled to welcome Joe Absolom to the cast. It’s fantastic to have such a high-caliber and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team to play the role of Ray. “Charming, charismatic, and effortlessly likeable, Ray is an extremely complex character who very quickly shows his dark and villainous side to some of our most loved villagers, leaving them in no doubt as to what he’s capable of.”
Speaking about the role, Joe Absolom said: “Well, what an honour to join such a talented team at Emmerdale! It’s an iconic show and I’m grateful to be part of it. I can’t wait to see what’s in stock for Ray!”

Emmerdale continues Monday on ITV1 at 7.30pm
