More often than not, recently I read a spoiler and find myself wanting to bang my head against the nearest wall. Take Emmerdale, for example and this week once again sees the soap trope of the local police force arresting someone for something they are not responsible for.

Emmerdale kicks off this week with Aaron once again trying to escape his creepy husband, making it as far as the car before John appears like a bad smell. Also trying to save Aaron is Robert, because let’s face it, nobody else seems that worried about actually doing something.
It all goes wrong when Robert finds John and accuses him of committing murder, but Robert gets in a lucky punch before being overpowered and ends up lifeless on the ground.
However, John is relieved to not have killed Robert, but good times don’t last when he spots Aaron making an escape – cue another chase through the woods (spare a thought for the crew working on these scenes during the hot weather).
The alarm bells are ringing for Aaron, who no longer believes anything John is telling him and can see how unbalanced he really is. John is on the verge of confessing and calling the police when Robert appears again and everything goes to shit when John starts spouting off about how this reunion has been orchestrated.
As things escalate, John calls the police to frame Robert before jumping into the gorge with his arms around Aaron… Robert is still reeling after witnessing John pull Aaron off the cliff. When he looks over the edge and sees both of them motionless, Robert dials 999. Robert is left defeated when no one believes his accusations that John is behind the recent terror in the village. Believing he’s the one that pushed John and Aaron off the gorge, Chas vows to make him pay.

Over in Coronation Street, there is a troubling sense of history repeating itself when the bin wars between the Platts and the Connor-Swain’s household uncover a secret someone was trying to keep hidden.
Recently recast Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) is complaining she’s got a stomach ache but David is sceptical and sends her to school anyway. Sarah is concerned when David shares that Lily was trying to skive off school and fighting over a boy. David’s annoyances are further added to when he sees that Carla’s been dumping rubbish in his bin again.
That’s the least of his problems; when he finds a pregnancy test, convinced it’s Betsy’s, he shows it to Sarah, who suggests it might be Lily’s.
The culprit later comes forward, but just who is it? Was Shona trying to hide it after recent troubles in the family? Was Lily hiding her own for fear of the family finding it? Or was she hiding it for someone else… Hope maybe?
