Last month, ITV revealed that the momentous soap crossover episode, in which the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale come together for the first time, would be called Corriedale.

Corriedale CONFIRMED!

The two titans of British soap, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, are set to collide in a landmark one-off crossover, officially announced by ITV. The special episode, dubbed Corriedale, marks the first time the two flagship soaps will join worlds in a single narrative event.

What we know
According to ITV’s press release, the episode will be an hour-long event, with characters from both Weatherfield and the Dales coming together for one night only. The crossover is billed as self-contained, but ITV confirms that the drama will have ‘everlasting consequences‘ for both shows.

The finer details of what will unfold remain unknown. However, Metro reported last month that a poster of John was seen inside Weatherfield station.

A new viewing era
While the exact date has yet to be revealed, the crossover paves the way for what ITV has dubbed the new ‘soap power hour’ schedule starting January 2026, when each soap will air 30-minute episodes back-to-back each evening. Emmerdale will air at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm on ITV1.

The viewer gets a say
In a unique twist, viewers will be invited to choose which two characters, one from each soap, will meet and interact in the crossover. This is not the first time Coronation Street has gone down this route of including the viewers, having previously allowed a viewer to have their message appear in The Rovers during a scene in the 2015 live episode.

Confirmed Cast So Far

  • DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) – Coronation Street
  • Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) – Emmerdale

While other characters have been mentioned in reports, ITV has not confirmed anyone else at this stage.

On what’s due to be must-see TV for any soap fan, Vicky said: ‘To be involved in this unique, bold, innovative, not to mention history-making episode, in Coronation Street’s 65th year, (well, when we are filming it at least), is fantastic. When I read the script and found out how two worlds collide, who is involved and how the characters interact, not to mention the impact the events of the night will have… Wow. It’s going to be unmissable.’

‘I couldn’t wait to get started actually. This has been in the pipeline for quite some time and the talented team behind the scenes at Coronation Street and Emmerdale, has worked tirelessly to make this happen. They’re incredible. I’m really looking forward to meeting, and working with, people I haven’t met or worked with before, both in front of and behind the camera. It’s incredibly exciting and the camaraderie is great. It’s going to be epic.’

Talking about filming getting underway, Danny explained: ‘I am made up that Aaron is in the Corriedale episode. Originally from Manchester, Coronation Street has always been an iconic show in our house just as much as Emmerdale. So to cross them both over is a great idea. The night shoots have been full on with having young kids but a lot of fun and it’s been great working with the Corrie team. I can’t wait to see how the episode plays out with the separate storylines from both Emmerdale and Corrie. It’s going to be epic and every soap fan’s dream.’

ITV Executive Producer for Continuing Drama Iain Macleod said: ‘It’s beyond exciting that filming is under way on Corriedale. There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites and the images coming out of the shoot are utterly spectacular. And that’s before we’ve even got to all the brilliant transpennine interactions between characters from the different shows! As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable.’
