Originally a radio show but made into the hit BBC series, Little Britain ran between 2003 and 2007. Written by and starring David Walliams Matt Lucas the show became a hugh success.
Even Matt Lucas stated in 2017 he has come to agree criticism of the show.
Despite personally wanting to see the show make a come back for a long time attitudes change and this is one of those shows where what was once accepted just doesn’t fit in with our changing ways.
Marjorie Dawes is a prime example of a character that just doesn’t fit with today’s society.
As the runner of the local weight loss group ‘Fat Fighters’ not only would this be seen as fat shaming but a running ‘joke’ was against an indian character Meera who Marjorie pretended not to hear or understand.
Other characters that I couldn’t see work now without being very cringe are Emily Howard (the transvestite) and Gerald Pincher (Bitty).
With David Walliams having now confirmed a return for Little Britain it remains to be seen just which classic characters make the return.
‘I would say there will definitely be some more Little Britain coming,’ the father-of-one revealed: ‘I can’t say when exactly but at the right time and place. It was fun coming back for radio because that’s where we started.’
