Once the paramedics have left the site of a collision, it’s over to the specialist team from Gwent Police to start hunting for the evidence to uncover the cause of the crash.
When 999 calls start coming in to report debris on the M4 motorway during the busy evening rush-hour, officers discover that a father and son have been involved in a serious crash. With the motorway closed, and traffic chaos building, the pressure is on the forensic collision investigators to capture the evidence and find out why the car left the road.
“We can’t shut the motorway for days, hoping to find evidence,” says PC Chris Goddard. “Once we open up the road, that’s it. We can’t go back.”
And when a woman is hit by a car as she crosses the road in Blackwood, PC Rhys Dickinson begins the painstaking process to establish if the witness accounts are correct.
