Daniel arrives and delivers news of his own that leaves some reeling.
Rachel and Barney, both studying architecture, connect when Rachel confronts Barney about his coughing. Meanwhile, Rachel meets Pete through Barney’s friend at the Campus Surgery. Pete expresses interest in Rachel and asks her out. Barney, recovering from cancer, discusses his coughing with Luca, who assures him it’s a side effect of his treatment. Barney just wants to live a normal life without pity. Luca informs Rachel that she has chlamydia, but it won’t affect her fertility.
Later, Rachel apologizes to Barney for their earlier conversation after learning about his cancer from Pete. During a coffee meeting with Pete, Rachel realizes his intentions were not genuine and leaves. Rachel finds Barney and they bond over an architectural floor plan. Barney confronts Pete for using his cancer to impress girls. Pete is indifferent and advises Barney to do the same. Pete then unknowingly reveals Rachel’s condition.
