Though an on-edge Krista attempts to avoid drugs, a haunting reminder of her lost child sends Krista into a spiral — and she gives into her demons, taking the drugs and disappearing from the hotel. Swallowing her own guilt, Chelsea covers for Krista’s absence with Leo and Paul and tends to the groggy and remorseful Krista. Playing into Krista’s insecurities, Chelsea promises to keep the drug use a secret, and convinces her to move on from the sauna’s fault and focus on the future. But while Chelsea’s managed to save her own skin, has she only set Krista on a path of further self-destruction?

While working with Paul on staffing Eirini Rising, Terese catches sight of Melanie and makes an immediate retreat. While Terese admits to Paul that she has to flee every time she sees Melanie because she refuses to cry in front of her, a saddened Melanie hates that her very presence causes such an impact on Terese’s life. Melanie corners Terese, offering a genuine and sincere apology for her betrayal, hoping it will help Terese feel less triggered if she knows how genuine and intense Melanie’s regret is. To Terese’s surprise it does. Reflecting on it, she tells Melanie that her apology has been accepted, what she feels more than anything now is deep sadness that everyone’s lives are worse off.

JJ learns he is facing minor charges for the botched Eirini Rising robbery, but the bigger and more immediate problem is his future at Erinsborough High. After previously bringing a knife to school, the robbery may be the final straw. Cara and Remi get to work convincing Jane that JJ deserves to stay, and though they’re able to get Jane onside, she warns them that the greater challenge will be swaying the Education Department. But at the meeting that will decide JJ’s fate, JJ fails to turn up, devastated after learning that he has yet again been denied contact with Felix.
