Concerned to find Terese holed up in her bedroom with food poisoning, Nell calls Toadie, who takes it upon himself to manage Terese’s care. Similarly, Paul rushes to Number Twenty-Two when he hears Terese is ill but is dismayed to find Toadie in residence. Paul is left shut out, and Toadie uses the intimate time with Terese to voice his regrets: in hindsight, he wishes he’d taken time to confront the hard parts of losing Melanie before he and Terese embarked on their marriage. Later, Terese reflects that she, too, was guilty of rushing into her relationship with Toadie, instead of doing the work to properly move on from Paul.

As panicky Aaron tries to wrap his head around Nicolette’s ultimatum, Jane assures that no one will take Isla away from him. In the face of Jane’s compassionate corrective, an ashamed Aaron agrees to leave Nicolette to Jane and concentrate on sobering up. Calling Nicolette out for weaponizing the child she co-parents with Aaron, Jane reminds Nicolette of how Aaron and David forgave her for keeping Isla from them and challenges her to show Aaron the same compassion. After exchanging apologies, Nicolette sees Aaron’s pain and assures him they are still a family unit, despite David being gone. Nicolette encourages Aaron to spend time with Isla, but when he’s out of sight, she opens a list of Aaron’s transgressions on her phone, adding in a new entry – drug and alcohol benders. Mackenzie spills out her conflicted feelings to Karl and Susan, admitting Haz isn’t the man she thought he was, but she can’t stop thinking about him. Holed up in a city office, Haz is revolted when Wade puts him to work on their first grubby job. Later, Mackenzie gets a lead on Haz’s whereabouts when she recalls the note Wade gave her on a complementary notepad. Realising stopping Haz before he commits more crimes is ultimately the best thing, Mackenzie hands the address over to Andrew but is bemused by his lack of urgency. Regretting handing her lead over to Andrew, Mackenzie resolves to give Haz the opportunity to turn himself in and drives to the city with Karl. Meanwhile, Wade becomes suspicious that Haz is wearing a wire and bolts for it. As Wade runs across the road with Haz in hot pursuit, Mackenzie doesn’t have time to brake or swerve, and Haz goes flying.
