Gary Windass has been through the wringer on Coronation Street recently!

The Weatherfield favourite has been juggling looking after his step-son Liam overdoses, while his relationship with Maria Connor crumbles.

Speaking about his trouble, actor Mikey North opened up about the dramatic turn of events.

“It’s been a really tough time for Gary,” he admitted. “He’s trying to be there for Maria, but they just don’t see eye-to-eye on how to help Liam. Things got REALLY nasty when Maria questioned whether Gary was even Liam’s real dad – that hit him hard.”

But that’s not all! Gary’s past with Sarah Platt has come back to haunt him.

“The Sarah thing is always there,” said Mikey. “And of course, it just had to be with Sarah that Gary was with when Liam overdosed! He’s devastated, but to make matters worse, he’s trying to hide it from Maria.”

So will Gary come clean?

“He’ll probably try to keep it quiet,” Mikey revealed. “The last thing Maria needs is more stress, but secrets ALWAYS come out in Corrie!”

And it seems Maria has a secret of her own – the hidden camera that caught Gary and Sarah together.

“Gary was shocked, then panicked,” Mikey said of the camera reveal. “He got away with it once, but you can never escape Maria’s wrath!”

With Maria’s smothering behaviour and Gary’s hidden past, is their relationship doomed?

“They’ve been through a lot and built a family unit,” Mikey mused. “But this is a huge spanner in the works. Can they come back from this?”

And what about Sarah? Could there be more to Gary’s feelings for her?

“Their relationship ending was a shame,” admitted Mikey. “There’s always going to be a connection there. They know each other’s deepest secrets. I think a part of Gary will always have feelings for Sarah. Iit was a really happy time at work. I thoroughly enjoyed those years working with the Platt’s and got really nice storylines out of it.”
