Cleo McQueen is set for a dark storyline in Hollyoaks that will explore the horrors of coercive control.

The soap has partnered with the government’s Enough campaign, which tackles violence against women and girls, to reflect real-life abuse in upcoming episodes.
Actress Nadine Mulkerrin, who plays Cleo, will be at the centre of the hard-hitting plot which sees her new boyfriend Abe turn out to be a manipulative monster.
Initially, Cleo and her family are completely taken in by charming Abe. But viewers will soon see his true colours as he starts to play twisted mind games with Cleo, isolating her from her loved ones.
Hollyoaks have revealed that this is one of the main storylines that will run across 2024, peaking this summer. We will first see the partnership between Hollyoaks and the Home Office come to life on screen at the end of May (23rd-29th May 2024), and then again highlighted in a second burst at the beginning of July (4th-10th July 2024).

The storyline will explore the emotional and physical abuse Cleo suffers at the hands of Abe, with a particular focus on how he uses her past eating disorder to control her.
Rupinder Downie, Sponsorship & Commercial Partnerships Leader at Channel 4, said: “We’re delighted to have supported this innovative storyline in partnership with the government. “Hollyoaks’ integration of the Enough campaign further highlights how we can work authentically to deliver change through entertainment.”
The harrowing storyline is set to be a major talking point for Hollyoaks viewers, and aims to raise awareness of the dangers of coercive control.
