In the world of big drama, stunts and constant soap exits and deaths, Hollyoaks has been a breath of fresh air with their storytelling over Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) and Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass).

Their ability to run a long-term, slow-burn storyline has been different from many soap norms. It hasn’t played out at 100mph, which has given the build-up for Hayray more believability over other plots.

Fans are loving the pairing dubbed ‘Hayray’ on social media.

One of the things I’ve always said in regards to LGBTQ+ storylines is that while representation does matter massively, no matter how good the ship is, if you screw it up that is what fans will remember.

What we don’t need now is misery or for the writers to become bored of the pair having built up this much and have them vanish and only reappear when they decide to have some sort of cheating storyline. Let them be shown as happy and in love; it’s not boring for fans to actually see some happiness on our screens once in a while.

Also, please stay clear of soap tropes that result in killing off one half of popular couples – however with the current exits of Hollyoaks characters this one worries me. There are many stories you could tell for Lucas and/or Dillon that show a couple having fun and enjoying life which aren’t cruel.

Life isn’t a bed of roses, but theirs hasn’t begun to grow yet, so don’t cut them down too soon.
