Carla Connor (played by Alison King) has been through the wringer this year on Coronation Street. From the heartbreaking end of her relationship with Peter to the unexpected arrival of her nephew Bobby and Roy’s recent imprisonment, Carla’s resilience has been tested. But in an interview, Alison reveals a surprisingly strong and determined Carla.

“To be fair I think she’s coping pretty well,” says Alison. “She made a mature decision to end things with Peter, and then dealt with Bobby’s arrival head-on. There’s a maternal instinct kicking in, especially after supporting Ryan.” While Bobby presents challenges, Alison admits Carla enjoys having a family connection. “She likes having that link, especially after Michelle left,” she says. “There’s a lot of room for more Connors on the Street!”

Roy’s imprisonment has put a strain on their bond. “She’s extremely worried about him,” says Alison. “Their relationship is built on trust, and Carla broke that by lying to protect Bobby. Now, she has to hold her hands up.”

When asked if Carla is ready to move on romantically, Alison is clear. “No, she’s definitely not looking for love. It’s the last thing on her mind.”

Alison thrives on Carla’s complexity. “I love playing all her sides,” she enthuses. “She’s fiery, fearless, and vulnerable. It’s been brilliant to portray her strength through addiction, grief, and vulnerability.”

What Keeps Alison at Corrie?

“The people are like family,” Alison shares. “It’s the dream job – getting to act every day and be a working mum.”

The show has played a significant role in Alison’s life as a working mother. “It allows me to raise my child and pursue my passion,” she says.

Alison cherishes the strong female bonds she’s formed on set. “We’ve all grown up together,” she says. “There’s a multi-generational aspect I love – mentoring newbies while relying on Helen Worth’s guidance.”

Carla Connor’s journey on Coronation Street promises to be gripping, with her strength and resilience sure to shine through.
