Leanne Battersby is finding herself in a whirlwind of emotions as the influence of the Institute takes over her life. “The Institute really has made her change her mindset,” Jane Danson reveals. However, this newfound positivity is not without its drawbacks. Leanne’s attempts at manifesting a better life have inadvertently driven a wedge between her and Nick. “Leanne is pushing people away without actually realizing she’s doing it,” Danson explains. “She’s kind of caught in negative outcomes by what she’s doing.”
As Leanne becomes more invested in the Institute, concerns from loved ones grow. Nick and Toyah’s worries are not unfounded, as Danson highlights the character’s drastic shift. “Usually, Leanne is a strong character who wouldn’t typically make these types of decisions,” she says, acknowledging the potential risks of Leanne’s current path.
Danson herself enjoys the challenge of this storyline, despite initial reservations. “When they first told me about the storyline, I wasn’t entirely sure about it,” she admits. Yet, exploring Leanne’s brainwashing and obliviousness to her destructive behavior has proven rewarding. “Leanne is absolutely oblivious to all of the damage she is causing,” Danson notes, adding depth to her portrayal.
Reflecting on her 27-year tenure on the show, Danson cherishes the rich history and relationships she’s built. “It’s amazing! Over the years we have all worked together so closely,” she shares, particularly appreciating her bond with on-screen sister Georgia Taylor.
Danson also expresses pride in her character’s iconic status. “For Leanne to be considered as an iconic character is thrilling,” she says. The long-standing camaraderie among the cast, including lifelong friendships with co-stars like Samia Longchambon, underscores the familial atmosphere of the Corrie set.
As Leanne navigates this turbulent phase, fans are left to wonder if her relationships can withstand the strain of her new obsession. Stay tuned to see how this gripping storyline unfolds.
