Get ready for a new way to explore Manchester as the city unveils its most ‘Manc’ tram ever, celebrating the beloved Coronation Street. Starting June 19th, the ‘Coronation Street Experience’ tram will be rolling through Manchester, offering fans a whimsical ride across the network for the next 12 months.

Following the 2010 tram crash episodes, Greater Manchester’s tram network received a flurry of inquiries from passengers who had seen alarming reports on television. However, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive assured the public that none of these calls were made in panic or distress. Instead, about half a dozen people called to check if services were affected.

This special tram, designed by Manchester-based agency ‘Meanwhile’, features vibrant illustrations of the show’s famous locations. Passengers can pretend to step through the Rovers Return doors or hop off at destinations like Kingsway and Radcliffe through sets mimicking iconic Corrie spots.

The initiative was celebrated with a temporary renaming of the IWM North stop to ‘Weatherfield North’. Jurian Van de Meer, EVP Brand Licensing at ITV, expressed excitement about the tram’s launch, eager to see fan reactions as this tribute to Corrie journeys through the city.

John Whiston, MD Continuing Drama for ITV Studios, shared his enthusiasm, noting the tram’s unique livery will promote the ease of visiting the Coronation Street Experience on a real Manchester tram.

Pete Sommers, TfGM’s Interim Metrolink Network Director, highlighted Metrolink’s growth since 1992 and its alignment with the iconic status of Corrie. He encouraged passengers to look out for the themed tram and enjoy this fun new way to engage with the city’s rich TV heritage.

So, grab your flat shoes and get ready to walk down those legendary cobbles, starting with a ride on the most iconic tram in Manchester!
