Fitton reveals that she was initially unaware of the depth of Lauren’s storyline when she first joined the show. “Not initially I didn’t,” she admits. “I knew about going missing, about the whole disappearance stuff… It wasn’t until I think a few months before I came back that I had the time to kind of like go away and do my research and make sure I got everything in place.”

The confrontation scenes between Lauren and Joel proved to be challenging for Fitton and her co-star Calum Lill, who plays Joel. “It was hard, it was really hard,” Fitton recalls. “We’ve been filming this storyline over the past year, you know from last year and I think me and Calum had never worked together up until that point.”

Despite the intensity, Fitton praises Calum’s talent and dedication. “When those scenes that will air that the audience will see, it was genuine fear,” she confesses. “It wasn’t acting, that guy is terrifying, he terrifies me.”

The intense confrontation between Lauren and Joel is a rare two-hander in Coronation Street, making it a unique task for both actors. Fitton acknowledged the pressure of tackling such an important issue. “There’s always an element of pressure when you’re doing a storyline that covers a really important issue, a serious topic,” she said. “You feel like you’ve got a duty of care.”

Cait expressed her desire to remain on Coronation Street and continue exploring Lauren’s complex character. “I’d love to stick around, I love playing Lauren,” she shares. “I mean I don’t know what’s going to happen moving forward but I’m hoping I’m here for the long term, fingers crossed.”
