Coronation Street’s Calum Lil has opened up about his character Joel’s villainous streak in a interview with Eastieoaks.com. Reflecting on the intense scenes filmed with Lauren, Lil shared, “It was amazing to be given the responsibility of playing the villain in Coronation Street.” He went on to describe the experience of shooting such dark content as “incredible” and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

When asked if Joel could potentially become one of Corrie’s most notorious villains, Lil acknowledged: “He is vicious. I don’t know about that. There’s some real big Corrie villains up there, you know. For me, my earliest Corrie memory is Richard Hillman driving the Platt family into the lake.”

A much talked about moment in Corrie’s history came from Richard ‘Killman’ Hillman driving the Platt family into the canal in 2003 (Picture: ITV)

However, he also teased that “we haven’t seen the worst of him yet,” leaving fans to speculate about Joel’s future actions.

With his vicious nature and a penchant for violence (including hitting Lauren over the head with a chair leg), Joel is undoubtedly a character to watch. Could he join the ranks of Corrie’s most infamous villains? Only time will tell.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1 tonight at 8pm
