Laurie Brett, beloved for her role as Jane Beale, has returned to EastEnders after a seven-year break. Reflecting on her first day back, Brett admits she felt a mix of nerves and excitement. “I was quite nervous on the first day, thinking, ‘Gosh, do I remember how to be Jane?’” she reveals. However, seeing familiar faces like Adam Woodyatt and Michelle Collins quickly put her at ease. “About half an hour in, it was like I’d never been away.”

Brett was intrigued when approached about her return. “I had a meeting with Chris Clenshaw (Executive Producer), and he laid out the story for me,” she explains. “By the end of that chat, I was in.” The chance to reunite with old co-stars, especially Thomas Law, was a major draw for her.

Jane’s storyline is packed with drama, particularly her first-ever encounter with Cindy. “It is a bit of a shock!” Brett says. “Jane is sideswiped by Cindy, thinking, ‘What are you doing in my house?’ Seeing Cindy is almost like seeing a ghost for Jane.”

The tension doesn’t end there. Jane also faces an emotional reunion with Bobby. “The minute Jane sees Bobby, it’s almost like an out-of-body experience for her,” Brett shares. “Her heart is exploding with love, and everything else fades to black. It’s a beautiful moment.”

Working with Adam Woodyatt again was another highlight for Brett. “We did a play together only a couple of years ago… It was joyous because I find working with Adam really easy,” she says. She also had a blast with Michelle Collins. “We didn’t stop laughing… On-screen, it was like the new Pat and Peggy with Cindy and Jane.”

Brett promises viewers a rollercoaster of emotions with Jane’s return. “It’s going to be intense, exciting, and emotional!”
