Welsh rugby fans are in for a treat as S4C announces it will broadcast the new Super Rygbi Cymru competition, alongside the Welsh Schools and Colleges (WSC) Rugby, live on its platforms this season. Starting from September 12, these thrilling matches will air on Thursday nights, with coverage on S4C Chwaraeon’s Facebook, YouTube, and S4C Clic.

In addition to live games, rugby enthusiasts can look forward to a highlights programme on Tuesday nights on S4C. The season kicks off with a bang, featuring a double-header in the second week to mark the beginning of WSC Rugby.

Graham Davies, S4C’s Head of Sport, expressed excitement about the upcoming season: “We are very proud to show the new and exciting competition, Super Rygbi Cymru, on S4C this season, as well as continuing to show the Schools and Colleges League. Thursday nights will be the night for live games across both competitions this season—a great way to start our weekend of sport.”

The Super Rygbi Cymru competition, newly established as the top domestic league by the Welsh Rugby Union, will showcase 10 ambitious clubs. John Alder, WRU’s Head of Player Development, emphasized the significance of these competitions: “Super Rygbi Cymru and WSC Rugby are critically important in the Welsh player pathway… Through live broadcast and highlights, I have no doubt this will generate interest, intrigue, and excitement for all.”

Carys Owens, Managing Director of Whisper Cymru, which will produce the broadcasts, highlighted the cultural importance of rugby in Wales: “Rugby in Wales is a vital part of our identity and culture… This agreement is very special, and S4C and the Welsh Rugby Union’s dedication to broadcasting live rugby on a weekly basis needs to be treasured.”

Fans won’t want to miss the opening clash on September 12, when Pontypool takes on last year’s champions, Llandovery, at 7:30 PM. The WSC Rugby action kicks off on September 19 with Glantaf facing Coleg y Cymoedd at 5:30 PM, followed by Cardiff against Ebbw Vale at 7:30 PM.
