The harrowing sibling sexual abuse (SSA) storyline in Hollyoaks has sparked an incredible response, with sexual violence charity SARSAS reporting a surge in website views from 101 to over 8,000 after the plot aired. The storyline has struck a chord, with peaks in visits coinciding with key episodes where JJ’s abuse of Frankie was first revealed, and later when Frankie’s sibling, Oscar, started noticing the abuse.

Jessica Fox, who plays Nancy Osborne, shared her insights on the intense family drama, revealing the toll it’s taken on her character.

“It’s been quite chaotic over in the Osborne/Ashworths,” Jessica said. “Frankie is feeling increasingly isolated, and in a clever move, JJ has managed to turf poor Nancy out of her own home as she was getting a bit too suspicious.”

Reflecting on the emotional impact, Jessica explained, “Nancy is confused, devastated, and frustrated. Being accused of something she didn’t do would drive her mad. But she’s handling it with a lot of grace and really wants Darren to support Frankie, as she feels there must be a reason why she’s saying this.”

As the storyline unfolds, Nancy’s instincts tell her something is wrong, but even she couldn’t have imagined the truth. “She will be utterly devastated that she didn’t see it and feel she let Frankie down as a teacher, friend, and mother figure,” Jessica shared, noting Nancy’s personal connection as a survivor of sexual assault herself.

Despite the challenges, Jessica hopes that Nancy and Darren will find strength in each other to face what’s ahead. “Nancy and Darren always seem to find a way through, although this might be the toughest situation they have ever faced.”

Jessica praised Hollyoaks for tackling such a sensitive and often taboo topic, saying, “Telling the hard stories that no one else wants to touch is what Hollyoaks does best, and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of it.”

As the gripping drama continues, Hollyoaks Digital is set to release a documentary, “Sibling Sexual Abuse – Ask the Difficult Questions,” featuring cast members meeting real-life survivors, further emphasizing the importance of this storyline.
