In a shocking turn of events, EastEnders favorites Sonia and Reiss find themselves in police custody on the very night of their engagement party, accused of the murder of Reiss’s ex-wife Debbie.
The couple’s tumultuous journey to engagement has been filled with challenges, from Reiss’s constant mishaps to Debbie’s death. Sonia, however, has remained steadfast in her support of Reiss, driven by her dream of building a family with him.
“Sonia loves Reiss and thinks he’s a really good man,” says actress Natalie Cassidy. “Yes, he gets himself in sticky situations, but he always manages to explain himself to her afterwards.”
Despite the red flags and growing gossip, Sonia remains fiercely protective of their relationship, channeling the strength of her Jackson family. “The rest of the Square don’t know the full story; they are just gossip-mongering,” Natalie explains.

Even the heartwarming gesture of an engagement party thrown by Kathy brings mixed emotions due to the awkwardness surrounding Debbie’s ring. And amidst it all, the looming eight-week viability scan adds another layer of anxiety. “There’s so much trepidation going into the scan because of her past experience,” Natalie reveals.
Just when it seemed like the couple might enjoy a moment of happiness at their engagement party, the police arrive with devastating news, turning their celebration into a nightmare. “Sonia is having a really nice time, but then the police turn up,” Natalie shares. “To her, it seems whatever she does, something rains on her parade.”
As Sonia and Reiss face questioning, the future of their relationship and their dreams of a family hang in the balance.
EastEnders air these scenes from Monday 19th August on BBC One
