Neighbours star Ryan Moloney has opened up about filming some of his most intense scenes as Toadie, revealing the bittersweet emotions behind what could be his final moments in the iconic role.
In an interview with backtothebay.net, Moloney shared his thoughts on shooting the high-octane scenes set in the Australian outback, which showcased Toadie’s deteriorating mental health. “It was something very special to do that kind of content,” Ryan said. “To explore Toadie’s mental health issues and the repercussions of all the traumatic things that have happened in his life was a wonderful opportunity.”
Reflecting on the unique experience of filming in the remote outback, Ryan likened it to a bonding school camp. “We’d never done something so large before,” he noted. “The Australian outback is just spectacular. It was an honor to be part of that, especially as my kind of going out story.”

When asked about Toadie’s potential fate, Ryan revealed it wasn’t his decision to leave. “I’ve been wanting to leave for quite a long time, but Neighbours is one of those jobs where you work with awesome people and get paid really well,” he explained. “I’m quite grateful they made that decision for me because I don’t think I could ever say no to a contract.”
As for Toadie’s ultimate exit, Ryan has his own dramatic vision. “I’ve always said if Toadie was going to get killed off, I’d like him to stop a bomb threat in Ramsay Street by jumping on the bomb and saving everyone—but just getting blown to pieces.”
With his future on the show uncertain, Ryan’s reflections on his time as Toadie highlight the emotional journey of an actor who has given so much to a beloved character and an iconic TV show.
