In a shocking twist for Coronation Street fans, Summer is left shaken when she returns home to find a strange man in her flat. It’s soon revealed that Billy has invited Wayne, a man he recently met at his addicts group, back to their home. But Wayne’s presence is just the beginning of a dark downward spiral for Billy.

As the pain of Paul’s recent passing grips him, a visibly broken Billy admits to Summer that he’s struggling to face the day’s planned memorial celebration. Seeking solace, he turns to whisky, downing a glass before heading to the pub where loved ones gather to release Paul’s ashes. But just as the emotional tribute begins, things take an unexpected turn. In a drunken outburst, Billy yanks the laptop plug, declaring the memorial a “farce” before dropping a bombshell confession: he made a pass at Todd right after Paul’s funeral.

The revelation leaves everyone stunned, but Billy isn’t done. Stumbling behind the factory, he listens to old voice clips of Paul, drinking alone in the freezing night. As the temperature drops, his phone battery dies, and Billy drifts into unconsciousness, his grief overwhelming him.

Back on the cobbles, Bernie grows concerned when Billy doesn’t return, and she heads out to search for him. But when she finds him, he’s dangerously cold and unresponsive. Has Bernie arrived in time to save Billy, or is this goodbye for good? Fans will have to stay tuned to see if Billy’s despair ends in tragedy.

Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy, has opened up about what he hopes will be the legacy of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) storyline that highlighted Paul’s battle with the terminal illness. Daniel said: “I would like the legacy to be that we’ve really helped to raise the profile of MND, the visibility of it and what it does to those living with it, and to their loved ones, their carers, their families.”

Daniel expressed deep pride in the storyline, calling it “the most personal story I’ve ever had to act,” and credited Coronation Street for creating real friendships that have helped him through the challenging scenes. Reflecting on his connection with Peter Ash, who played Paul, he shared, “It’s lovely when you get paired up with somebody who, not only you work really well with, but you genuinely have a connection in real life as well.”
