It’s set to be a Christmas full of surprises and romance on Coronation Street, with Carla and Lisa’s budding relationship finally taking centre stage. Producer Kate Brooks teases: ‘Christmas is a big moment for Carla and Lisa. They’ve been circling each other for a while now, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. They’re two strong, stubborn women who didn’t expect to fall for each other, but they can’t deny the connection they share.’

Carla’s journey to love is an emotional one. Having had a turbulent romantic past, falling for Lisa is a revelation for her. Kate explains: ‘For Carla, this is huge. She’s confident in her sexuality, but finding herself falling in love with a woman is completely unexpected. It’s not something she’s struggling with, but it’s uncharted territory, and she handles it with all the tenacity and heart we love about her.’

Lisa, however, faces her own challenges. ‘Lisa has barriers up. She’s still grieving her late wife, a heroic police officer, and she’s deeply committed to her job. Initially, she’s the one struggling to let Carla in, to show her vulnerability. But it’s beautiful to see Carla navigate this completely new world – including Lisa’s feisty daughter, Betsy. Carla’s in a different precinct entirely, and it’s a ride watching her figure it all out.’

The festive season will see their relationship take a significant step forward. ‘It’s at Christmas that their romance becomes public knowledge,’ says Kate. ‘There’s some initial hesitation from Carla about how people will react – not because of the relationship itself, but because she’s wary of the gossip. Once it’s out there, and she sees that everyone’s supportive, it’s all systems go. Christmas is when they truly commit to each other and declare their feelings.’

Fans can expect plenty of drama and heartfelt moments as Carla and Lisa navigate their love story. Kate promises: ‘2025 won’t be quiet for these two. There are plenty of challenges ahead, but ultimately, they emerge stronger and more united. This is a love story at its heart, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.’

For Carla and Lisa, Christmas is just the beginning. But will the cobbles let their happiness last?
