In 2025, Coronation Street fans are set for a dramatic shake-up as Rob Donovan makes his much-anticipated return, producer Kate Brooks has revealed.
‘There is a big one, a big Rob Donovan return,’ Kate teased.
Rob, last seen in 2017, is back – but is he a reformed character? Kate hinted at a complex journey: ‘We might think he’s seen the error of his ways. We think that, whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know, but he definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa.’
Carla and Lisa, finally united and ready to enjoy life together, won’t have long to relax. ‘Just when they think it’s safe to sit down and watch Netflix, Rob Donovan comes along and kind of scuppers all of that,’ Kate shared.
The storyline is set to test Carla and Lisa’s relationship early on. ‘They’re finally together, people know about them, they’re moving on with their lives, and then this drops on them,’ Kate said. ‘It’s a real test, but a good test.’
The drama doesn’t stop there, as Kate promised plenty of twists and turns: ‘I love Rob and Carla. I love tapping into their past and their history together. And we really explore that through their story.’
Expect fireworks, chaos, and gripping drama as Rob’s return unfolds, with Betsy also playing a pivotal role in the narrative. ‘Betsy is fabulous and will be right at the centre of that as well,’ Kate added.
