EastEnders have annouced a new 30-minute BBC Three documentary ‘EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere’ will dive deeper into the current misogyny storyline by looking at the real-life impact of the manosphere on young people across the UK.

The documentary which will air this Thursday on BBC Three at 8pm.

The documentary will be fronted by Diane Parish, Max Murray and Ellie Dadd, who are best known to the EastEnders viewers for playing Denise Fox, Joel Marshall and Amy Mitchell, and whose characters will also take a central role in the storyline.

The cast members will talk to experts in the field, including Professor Harriet Over (York University), individuals with lived-experience, poet Sam Browne who went viral online for his poem on misogyny, and charity Beyond Equality to highlight the importance of storylines like Joel’s, to consider what can be done to protect and help young people who may be exposed to these views online.

The documentary follows an EastEnders episode focusing on the impact of Joel’s misogynistic behaviour and views. EastEnders worked closely with The Lucy Faithful Foundation, End Violence Against Women, Beyond Equality, and other experts to ensure Joel’s storyline is portrayed accurately and sensitively. 

Nasfim Haque, BBC Three Head of Content added: “We’re pleased to offer viewers an in-depth insight into Joel’s storyline as we investigate the real-life issue of misogyny, it’s impact, and what can be done to help those affected.”
