A dark dark village with dark dark characters.. yep, that’s Emmerdale.
Emmerdale is well-known for pushing just how far it’ll go to tell a story, and over this year has aired some traumatic scenes, some of which recently saw two major character deaths. Next week sees Ruby being buried alive.
Graham arrives late for Dawn’s funeral and we wonder what he has been up to. When Joe struggles to deliver a eulogy, Kim steps in to provide a tribute. She finishes with a vow to keep the family together, but Joe, unable to cope with the weight of his grief, walks away from the burial. Kim and Graham argue about Joe’s absence and the family’s future. The dark truth is finally revealed when Joe visits a grave to swear vengeance for Dawn’s death: he has buried Ruby alive in the coffin.
Joe stands over a groggy Caleb ominously warning him about the events to come. As Joe taunts a weakened Caleb, he hints that he has put Ruby in danger and relishes the power he holds over him.
Meanwhile, a terrified Ruby wakes up in a coffin, unable to escape her confinement. As she loses strength, she slips into silence and appears to run out of air. Caleb attempts to find a weapon, but Joe laughs at him and reveals he has buried Ruby alive in a coffin, causing Caleb’s blood to run cold. Caleb begs Joe to release her, but Joe remains unmoved and blames Caleb for Dawn’s death.
Good luck, Emmerdale. When EastEnders aired a plot in 2008 which saw Max Branning being buried alive by his ex, Tanya, and Sean Slater, it got over 600 complaints and was deemed ‘offensive‘ by the media watchdog.
