Spoiler warning it contains details of a major Pobol y Cwm storyline that airs on S4C tonight (22 October) but is on iPlayer now. This also contains topics on Dementia which some may find upsetting.
I’m not crying – you are. Tears and lots of them as Anita’s storyline comes to an emotional close after a two-year dementia fight.
For the past two years, viewers have followed Anita’s dementia journey in one of the soap’s most powerful storylines of recent years, exploring the impact of the condition on both her and those closest to her.
A change for the normal style followed the whole episode from Anita’s perspective with familiar faces from the past also appearing as part of her final journey as Cwmderi bid farewell to one of its most cherished residents.
We won’t spoiler the returnees for those that watch at 8pm but that ending left me in bits.

For actress Nia Caron who plays Anita “It’s been a very sad journey,” she said, “but I’m glad this story was given the time it deserved rather than being rushed. It has allowed viewers to experience Anita’s illness alongside her, too.
“The episode is worth watching,” Nia added, “It’s heartening and it will lift your spirits. That’s what I hope comes across to people living with someone affected by this terrible disease. You must remember, every single day – despite the sadness – to recall the most wonderful, loving moments you’ve shared with these people.
“Keep watching, and don’t forget Anita. I’m sure you won’t because someone somewhere will be talking about her in the village for a long time to come in, hopefully, a positive way.”
The storyline was developed with support from the charity Alzheimer’s Society. Colleagues from the charity worked with the production team to help them better understand dementia with Lewy bodies and to connect with people with direct lived experience of the condition.

Rachel Nelson, Wales Country Manager for Local Services at Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, said:
“At Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, we welcome storylines like Anita’s because they help bring dementia into homes and communities across Wales and encourage conversations that might otherwise never happen.
“What Pobol y Cwm has shown particularly well is that dementia doesn’t just affect one person. It affects relationships, families, friends and the wider community.
“Dementia devastates lives but understanding and support can make a real difference. Storylines like this help reduce stigma, build understanding and encourage people to seek help earlier.”
