What is The Heart Guy about ?
The series follows Doctor Hugh Knight (Rodger Corser, Rush), a rising star in the Sydney heart surgery ranks, who is gifted,charmed, hedonistic and infallible, until his world comes crashing down. Banned from surgery and forced to work as a local doctor, he retreats to his hometown of Whyhope but finds that it is not the country escape he had in mind. And that is before he even starts seeing patients.
Who is who ?
DOCTOR HUGH KNIGHT (RODGER CORSER)
A gifted but arrogant surgeon, Hugh has become accustomed to being the king of the castle. He loves a good time and is prone to overindulgence,adapting to small town life isn’t going to be easy.
CHARLIE (NICOLE DA SILVA)
Ex-girlfriend of Hugh, and current wife of Matt, Charlie is strong-willed and passionate. Happy in her current life, she will not let Hugh’s return dig up the past.
MATT (RYAN JOHNSON)
Matt is Hugh’s younger brother, and Charlie’s dependable husband. A simple country guy at heart, Matt is content with running the Arcadia Brewery with Charlie.
PENNY (HAYLEY MCELHINNEY)
Penny is the no-nonsense, quick-witted Head Doctor at Whyhope Hospital. Recently appointed as Hugh’s supervisor, she holds the key as to whether he will ever get his old life back.
What is happening ?
In Episode one we meet High-flying Doctor Hugh Knight is now a country GP in his childhood home of Whyhope. He unwittingly gatecrashes his parent’s anniversary party where he is awkwardly reunited with family. At Whyhope Hospital, Hugh makes enemies of head doctor Penny and administrator Ken, which lands him a case of nits and an overweight miner with hemorrhoids. But when he helps nurse Aoife with emergency heart surgery, Hugh begins to feel more like himself. And that is worth celebrating – with Aoife and a bottle of Scotch.

He left his past in the small town with his family. One of the reasons he became a doctor was because it was far away from being a farmer in a small town, a heart surgeon is as opposite as you can get. Now he is back, he is forced to confront a lot of skeletons. He is cheeky and naughty but he loves what he does. He wants to be the best doctor he can be, he just likes to cut loose sometimes. He has that redeeming side even though he does bad things.
WOULD YOU WANT DR HUGH KNIGHT TO OPERATE ON YOU?
I would! Hopefully catch him on a good day, not after a bender! He is a very good surgeon, no one works harder.
WHAT WILL UK VIEWERS LOVE ABOUT IT?
Whyhope isn’t a dull one-horse town, it’s manic and crazy. There is lots to like about this small town and the people in it. The town of Whyhope is a character in itself and we have some amazing characters coming out of it, like Meryl who is running for mayor.
