Coronation Street’s Dee-Dee Bailey actress Channique Sterling-Brown has opened up about the challenges of defending Roy Cropper for murder, her blossoming relationship with Joel, and the importance of the show’s strong female characters.

“Defending Roy has been a rollercoaster,” says Channique. “It’s fantastic to work with more of the cast, but the pressure is immense. Roy’s not just a client; he’s a friend. Seeing him suffer takes a toll on Dee-Dee.”

Despite the stress, Channique hints at romance for Dee-Dee. “Joel’s been amazing support. They’ve faced challenges, but she’s head over heels. He’s her life raft in this chaos. They’ve had wobbles,” Channique admits about Joel’s past. “But Dee-Dee respects his honesty and wants to build on their strong foundation.”

“Being part of Corrie’s strong female legacy is incredible,” Channique beams. “The show celebrates complex women, and I never want Dee-Dee to be one-dimensional. Everyone’s been supportive!” Channique exclaims. “Lorna Laidlaw mentored me, and I learn from the younger actresses too. We all have something to offer.”

“Playing Dee-Dee is a dream,” Channique shares. “As a Black Northerner, it’s important to represent that. I’m so grateful for this opportunity.”

“Sue Nicholls [Audrey Roberts] is an icon!” Channique declares. “She’s glamorous, fun, and even nicer in real life. Sue’s career is an inspiration.”
