Cleddau ‘The One That Got Away’ is your brand new Sunday night drama from S4C, which begins at 9pm on 13th October, and you can catch up via S4C Clic and iPlayer.

Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster as S4C’s latest drama Cleddau: The One That Got Away promises a heart-pounding mix of murder, love, and long-buried secrets. Set in the cold, coastal town of Pembroke Dock, this psychological thriller opens with the brutal murder of a nurse, shocking the tight-knit community and sparking fears of a copycat killer echoing the notorious “Heart Knot Murders” from twelve years ago.

The race to find the killer falls on the shoulders of DI Ffion Lloyd (Elen Rhys) and DS Rick Sheldon (Richard Harrington), ex-lovers who are forced to work together once again. As they unravel the mystery, their passion reignites, but an explosive secret threatens to tear them apart and destroy Rick’s career.

“I’ve wanted to do a meaty role in the Welsh language for a very long time,” Elen revealed, adding that working with a Welsh crew created a unique atmosphere. “It’s a very small, family vibe, respectful and professional. I have very fond memories of filming and feel very proud of what we’ve achieved.”

Joining her on screen is fellow Welsh actor Richard Harrington, who describes his character, DS Rick Sheldon, as the most relatable role he’s ever played. “This detective is a lot more colourful and in touch with who he is, probably a lot more like me,” Richard said. “It’s a gift when you get a part where you can use parts of who you are.”

The One That Got Away isn’t just a murder mystery; it’s a gripping exploration of flawed human behaviour and unresolved love. With complex characters and a narrative that touches on issues like steroid abuse, PTSD, and dementia, the show delves deep into the mental health struggles of small-town men, bringing real-world issues into sharp focus.

As the days tick down, and the killer’s pattern threatens another victim, both the investigation and Ffion and Rick’s relationship reach breaking point. In the end, Cleddau is a chilling reminder that murder, like love, can be devastatingly human.

S4C’s head of drama Gwenllian Gravelle is excited for audiences to experience the show, calling it a “gripping new drama” that showcases “the iconic location of Pembroke Dock” alongside a dynamic cast. Meanwhile, Ben Bickerton from Blacklight Productions promises plenty of twists, saying, “Cleddau delves deep into detectives’ personal lives, uncovering devastating secrets from the past.”
