Rhuanedd Richards, Director of BBC Wales, expressed her pride in this special volume, which reflects on the show’s success over the decades. “Within these pages are memories from many actors and crew who’ve ensured Pobol y Cwm‘s continued success,” she said.
The show’s co-founder, Gwenlyn Parry, once stated that his aim was to create content for Welsh people to enjoy for its quality, not simply because it was Welsh. The book beautifully captures how Pobol y Cwm has stayed true to that vision, portraying characters that feel like real, relatable people.
Series producer Dafydd Llewelyn praised the work of William Gwyn and Dorian Morgan, who documented these treasured stories from cast and crew. “There are stories that bring laughter, sadness, and joy – all reflecting the warmth at the heart of Pobol y Cwm,” he said.

From its humble beginnings in a church vestry in Charles Street to its current home in Cardiff, the soap’s journey has been one of dedication, teamwork, and innovation. Geraint Evans, S4C’s Acting Chief Content Officer, hailed the book as a fitting tribute to the show’s legacy, adding, “Congratulations to Pobol y Cwm for entertaining generations of viewers for fifty years.”
Here’s to another 50 years of life in Cwmderi!
