Home and Away airs on 5STAR at 6:30pm
Abigail comes to Mali with an apology in the form of the newspaper article denouncing Lacey that came off the back of her interview with a journalist… He was right. Mali is apathetic, having warned Lacey multiple times not to go to the media. Abigail begs for some advice, so Mali circles back to something he told her straight after she went to the media: tell Lacey, it’s better if she hears it from her. When Abigail tells Lacey, this sets her several steps back. The DPP were considering dropping he charges but in light of this most recent article their decision might be swayed. Lacey asks Abigail for some space, and she concedes.
Later, Leah softens Lacey that the body of the article isn’t as inflammatory as the headline. They both go to David to try and get some more clarity on the outcome. Leah attempts to bolster Lacey are futile; Lacey’s already jaded from her previous unfavourable rulings in court as well as the poor track record of woman claiming self-defence being wrongly accused. The Langham’s reconvene that evening, with David trying to give Lacey hope that the outcome from the DDP could still exonerate her. David calls Jo for her support, but she’s not picking up and Lacey tells him to stand down – she’s still dealing with her own issues considering Tane’s sudden departure. David’s curiosity is piqued by Jo’s absence, and he makes a call to the hospital only to find out she’s on leave. He goes to the station looking for Cash who he finds out is also on leave. David catches on and leaves Cash a voicemail that he better not be doing what he thinks he’s doing, let alone taking his daughter with him.
Abigail opens up to Mali about the outcome of her interview with the journalist and that all the talking points she wanted to address are in the article, buried under an inflammatory headline. They agree to disagree; Abigail asks for some space, and Mali is happy to give it to her. Abigail apologises to David personally, who is dismayed at her reasoning for going to the media in the first place. As a result, the DPP is reviewing Lacey’s case because the last thing they want for their optics is to be accused of nepotism by exonerating an officer’s daughter.
Abigail is in an emotional state, so Mali attempts to thaw their rift by offering to cook dinner, but she still can’t accept that she never should have went to the media in the first place – it’s just that the timing was off. Mali is done with the constant arguing, so he leaves her house, their relationship even worse than before.
Brax is giving out jobs to the cattle ranchers in Western Australia. He assigns Tane to be by his side helping out for the day. Whilst they’re at work in the red dirt, they have some time to talk. Tane is still coming to terms with how unfair his situation is. Both having been in a similar situation, unfairly accused for something they didn’t do, Brax gives him the silver lining that things will get easier. After work they grab a beer overlooking the sunset and reflect on all the things they have in common, and the things they left behind in Summer Bay. Meanwhile, Ricky is grabbing lunch with their son in the local town. Cash is canvassing the beach with Jo, and he approaches Ricky, presenting her with a photo of Tane. Ricky lies and races back to the house, alarmed at what this could mean for her and her family.
